The Adil Shah Palace Gateway is located close to the Church of St. Cajetan in the Old Goa area. This palace is the only last remains of a beautiful palace, which was built during the supremacy of Yusuf Adil Shah Khan. The palace was constructed under the rule of the Sultan of Bijapur, Yusuf Adil Shah Khan, and he was also the last of the Muslim rulers of Goa. The architecture of the palace is the blend of the Muslim as well as Hindu architecture. There is a horizontal lintel which rests on the pillars and those have been decorated with molding and the pillars even have fragmentary perforated screens towards the outer side.
The palace was demolished in 1820 and was later on also the residence of the Portuguese Governor until the year1696. There was a three meter high gateway which was built using basalt. The palace was located close to the waterfronts of the Mandovi river.
