Nagaur is situated 135 kilometres to the northeast of Jodhpur and can be easily reached by Rajasthan Roadways or taxi services. The main attraction of this desert city is the Ahhichatragarh Fort or the Nagaur fort as it is commonly known as. Nagaur fort was constructed by the originators of Nagaur (the Nagavanshis) in line with the Vaastu shastra. The perimeter of this fort is around 5000 ft in length. It has 2 parallel frontier walls and 28 security towers. The fort has witnessed the rules of Rajputs as well as Mughals. Hence the fort displays a unique combination of Rajput and Mughal architecture. The Hawa Mahal, Diwan-i-Khas, Akbari Mahal and Sheesh Mahal built by Mughal emperor Akbar dominate the landscape along with the Mughal garden which till date has a wonderful appearance. Gorgeous paintings that decorate the ceilings of the palace and walls of the fort, depict the innumerable stories of courage and valour of its emperors. The city of Naguar hosts an annual cattle fair in January / February along with thrilling camel races. The Ramdeoji Ka mela organised in February and Tejaji ka mela in August are worth visiting. Other places of tourist interest are the Kuchaman fort and the Mirchi Bazar.
