The Alpather Lake is a beautiful alpine lake which is located between the snowy Himalayan peaks. This is truly a photographer's delight. The Lake is located at the foot of the twin 4511 meter Apharwat peaks, which is frozen till the month of June. As the ice gradually starts melting one can see the clumps of floating ice blocks and these make a very pretty sight to be seen and experienced.
There a few regions around The Alpather Lake for which you would require special permits from the Indian army. You are advised to get these details from the local tourism office, before heading out to these restricted areas. The Alpather Lake depending on the season is surrounded by mountains and the blooming wildflower meadows or snow laden fields. You could see many small ducks waddling around the lake. One can reach the Alpather Lake on well-graded track on the back of a pony. This is quite well known tourist spot too. There is no entry fee for visiting the place and can be visited on all days of the week.
