Anna Centenary Library, a humongous library sprawling across 9 floors is a haven for bibliophiles and boasts of over 550,000 books. This library is the largest of its kinds in Tamil Nadu and can seat 1250 people at a single go. Visited by over 2,700 people every day (on an average), this library is segregated into separate sections and its floor are dedicated to various subject matters.
Here, you will also come across a finely equipped Braille section for a reader who is visually challenged. It has a large collection of over 1,500 Braille books, audio books and e-books. Equally delightful is its children's section, with its extensive collection encompassing practically all subject matters. For those who love to have their noses buried in the pages of a book at all times, the ‘Own Book Reading’ arena is surely a boon in disguise. You may carry in your reading materials, laptops or periodicals and read/work in relative calmness.
Tourists and booklovers like to visit its Tamil Books, Periodical and English Books section as well. In addition, there are two conference halls, an auditorium and an amphitheatre on this sightseeing location’s terrace. You may enjoy delicious meals at the Anna Centenary Library’s in-house food court too. Well maintained and lit by natural light seeping in from the atrium on the 7th floor during daytime, the library boasts of service areas that flank the western side--to alleviate solar radiation. Built by C.N. Raghavendran in 2010, this exciting and incredible institution is a “must-see”!
