Questions that our children ask us about science can all be answered with a visit to the Anna Science Centre Planetarium, Tiruchirappalli. Opened in 1999, the centre was established to provide the young generation and children with knowledge about the earth and its systems. Covering subjects like Pollution, Ecosystems, Biodiversity, Conservation, Geochemistry, Sustainable development and many others, the centre is a one stop hub for anyone who wishes to understand the world and our role in it.
With eleven galleries displaying facts in an exciting and illustrative manner, the centre explains the displays in a fascinating and interesting manner. Taking you back to the beginnings of transportation, the transport gallery covers all aspects of transportation – be it sea, air or land. The heart gallery with its display of the hearts of an elephant and a whale amongst others is always a big draw for all. There is also the interactive corner for kids to understand the different scientific concepts and their functions. Just when you thought it couldn’t get better, you find the 3-D theatre. Showcasing movies on science, it takes you beyond the realm of our gravity into deep space – unraveling the mysteries that we always wondered about. Or into the deep oceans, showing us places and things that are beyond our imagination. A visit to this place will leave you yearning for more and wishing that such places existed when we were young.
