The Bal Samand Lake, Jodhpuris located at a distance of only 6 kilometres, and is located on the Jodhpur-Mandore road. This Lake is an example of an attractive and a stunning man-made architecture. The Lake was originally built in the year 1159 AD. The purpose of this lake was to be a reservoir for the city of Mandore. The Lake is one kilometer long, almost 50 meters wide and 15 meters deep.
In the present time the Balsamand Lake is a very well known picnic spot. One can find a couple of attractions like many sprawling lush gardens can be see here which are full of a couple of fruit trees. One can see and explore the beautiful lakeside palace which was built originally by Maharaja Sur Singh as his summer retreat. This has now been converted in to a heritage hotel. Upon visiting the place one can see how the artificial waterfall which originates from the reservoir supplies water to the garden. You might be lucky enough to spot a rare view of the blue bull or a peacock which is swaggering around in the gardens or even see the sight a fruit bat hanging from the trees.
