Barakhamba refers to a popular 14th century tomb. Belonging to the period of Lodhis, this monument receives its name from the twelve pillars or 'Barakhamba'. Also known for its arched openings on all three sides of the monument, this important sightseeing location in Delhi is an example of the architectural style prevailing during the Lodhi period. Barakhamba is also home to four domed apartments placed at the four corners of the complex, a passage laid in and around the precincts of the central chamber and many other features that are worth a visit.
This monument is laid out in a public park and was occupied by squatters—until a few years back. However, after the beginning of the restoration of ' Barakhamba', things are changing for the better. The partially demolished remains of Lal Mahal are located in close vicinity of this famous tomb. Remember to include this monument in your itinerary too.
