Bekal Fort is the largest fort located in the Indian state of Kerala. The fort is spread in an area of 40 acres. The unique features of this fort is the opening of the tunnel which is in the southern direction of the fort where ammunitions were kept, another feature to be noted is the placement of the broad steps which lead to the observation and also the water tank which has the flight of steps. From the fort one can places like Pallikkara, Bekal and Uduma. It appears that the fort was built right from the sea since almost three fourths of the exterior of the fort was drenched with water. There are no remains of palaces, mansions or any other building which would enable us to believe that like other forts, Bekal fort was also a center of administration, however it was not.
