Bhitarkanika National Park is a national park, which is located in Orissa, in the Kendrapara District. The national park was set up in 1998. This is also known as the second largest mangrove ecosystem in India.
The commonly found animals in this wildlife sanctuary are Indian Python, Black ibis, Darters, Saltwater Crocodile and many other species of fauna and flora. This sanctuary is set up in an area of 672 sq kms. Here you will see lots of mangroves and muddy creeks.
There are almost 63 varieties of mangroves out of a total of 75, in the world. Plenty of crocodiles, which are almost 6 meters in length, can be seen. Other animals to be found are the wild boar, pythons, water monitors and the timid deer. The best time to visit this sanctuary is from December to February. If you are a bird lover, then you will enjoy being here, as there are almost eight species of kingfishers in beautiful colors and along with 190 other bird species, like herons, Raucous, Gahirmatha, Olive Ridley, and Rushikulya is also found here.
