The Birla temple in Kolkata is also known as the Lakshmi Narayan Temple. As the name suggests the temple was built by the well known Birla family of India. The architecture of the temple is so intricate that it took almost 26 years for the temple to be built. The temple is located on the Asutosh Chowdhury Avenue, Ballygunge. There are deities of Hindu gods like Radha and Krishna, Goddess Durga, and Lord Shiva.
The temple is spread in an area of 44 kathas of land, which makes it really huge. This is a very prominent landmark of Kolkata. Upon visiting the temple you will notice there is a picturesque depiction of the Bhagwad Gita which has been engraved on the stone along with some elaborate Rajasthani style of architecture. The surface of the temple has been decorated with marble which also showcase the teaching of Lord Krishna, which were communicated by him to his disciple Arjun. The temple is very nicely decorated with lights at night and is well illuminated. The temple was originally designed by architect Nomi Bose. The visiting hours of the temple are 5:30am to 11:00am and then in the evening from 4:30pm to 9:00pm.
