The new name of the Brabourne Road is Biplabi Trailokya Mahara. This today looks like a concrete jungle however at one point in time this place was specially meant for commercial activities. The Brabourne road is situated between the “White Town’ and ‘native’ Kolkata. The food items specifically the rolls, biryani, stir fires and the sou-meis were once a part of the local diet of the crowd which has now become the primary meal. There are quite a lot of religious structures located close to the Brabourne road. The Portuguese church is the most noticeable and striking church and is also the first Catholic church of Kolkata. The church was originally built in the year 1747. There are two towers of the church which looks extremely majestic. The interiors of the church still retain the old-world charm. On the opposite side of the road is the Maghen David Synagogue which was constructed in the year 1884. The building is brick red in color. The building is still well known for the Venetian style windows.
The Armenian Street is located very close by. The Armenian Holy Church of Nazareth was built in the year 1707. The church was later on upgraded in the year 1724.
