Car rental in Italy and a question of parking

Hello Fellow --
We booked our rental with AutoEurope; subsequently, we checked in with AAA and found a MUCH better deal (several hundred dollars). Returned to AutoEurope with the quote from AAA, and they matched it. They (AutoEurope)had to switch from one provider to another with a similar auto, but there was no question that they would match the best offer we had found through AAA. So, do some investigating on your own even after making the booking. And the people at AutoEurope have been very professional and pleasant to deal with from our experience thus far. We`ll be picking up our car in Rome in mid-March and driving north to Collodi. That brings up another question for the group. . .
We want to use our rental as much as possible and we also want to get from the Lucca area (Collodi to be precise) to Florence on a fairly regular basis for the month we are in that part of the country. Does anyone know where we might park the car near the city of Florence and yet also be close to public transportation? We`d rather not take the train from Lucca if we can drive to a location that`s nearer our destination. Any advice will be appreciated.
