This is a popular hill station in the state of Himachal Pradesh which lies at only 44 kms. from Shimla. One of the popular tourist attractions here is the Chail Palace which was built by the Maharaja of Patiala as his summer retreat during the British rule in India. The palace features a polo ground as well as a cricket ground at the highest level above sea in the world marked at 2,444 meters. It is a favorite among tourists who like hiking and it is very easy to access from Shimla.
Earlier in history Lord Kitchener prohibited the entry of Maharaja of Patiala in Shimla in the year 1891 and this is the main reason that he decide to build a summer capital for himself. This is how the Chail palace came up and after the Maharaja acceded to the government donated all his buildings to the government and military schools.
