The Chilkur Balaji temple has been dedicated to the Hindu god, Lord Vishnu. The local folks also address him as “Visa”. The temple is located on the banks of the Osman Sagar, which is located near Hyderabad. This temple is considered to be one of the most ancient Hindu temples which are solely dedicated to Lord Balaji.
A very unique feature of the temple is that, money is not accepted from any devotee. There is no special privilege provided to the VIP’s and the temple is not under the control of the government. Although one cannot find any scriptures or details about this temple but by looking at the architecture one can temple is almost 500 years old. The temple is located in very idyllic surroundings. A lot many numbers of people visit the temple on the sacred days of Poolangi, Annakota, and Brahmothsavams.
People refer to god here as the 'Visa' and quite differently most of the prayers inside the temple are related to visa. A devotee usually performs all the ritualistic prayers and circumambulates in the shrine which is placed inside 11 times while praying for a wish. Once the wish is fulfilled they have to come back and then walk around the holy shrine 108 times offering a prayer of thanks.
