The churches in Goa are visited by a lot of people from all over the world. The only church in the world, after Rome which sees the Procession of All Saints is the Church of Saint Andrews located in Goa. This church is very old and was built in 1868 and as the name suggests was dedicated in the loving memory of Saint Andrews. The church came into existence after a church which was built in 1583 collapsed. This Church of St Andrew is actually believed to be a parish church of Goa Velha, which is located in the Northern part of Goa. The church is well known for the Procession of All Saints, this procession starts from its area and is held generally fortnight before Easter. The procession is as long as 2 kms and is full of devotees and idols of saints which are taken out from the church only for the procession. The statues belonging to the Saint Andrew Church originally belong to the Monastery of the Capuchos, which were there before the religious orders were abolished.
