Cost of internet access when traveling

Very good topic but if you are quoting your prices in Australian Dollars, it is hard to make a value judgment on the relative prices for some of us who work in American dollars, or like me, the Israeli shekel. I really think that it depends on the country one is in. I was in China in Sept. 08 and every hotel had a desk with a cable for internet connection with no fee. These were mostly 5 star hotels, too. Many uppper bracket hotels charge high fees whereas a tourist type hotel advertises free highspeed internet in the room. In Morocco, several hotels had internet for a fee in the room and free wireless in the lobby. I just checked a hotel list for Portugal for a planned trip and half the hotels listed free internet in the room.
I was recently on a trip to southern Israel and since the hotel prices for a connection were high, I found a cafe with free wireless and for the price of a coffee I could sit for an hour and complete my business.
I have a netbook and travel everywhere with it. I do not spend funds on food, that is just me, so I am happy to pay a fee for the internet and eat a Snickers Bar for dinner after a long, tiring day of touring.
