Cuenca-Worth a visit?

In my opinion, YES, it is not far from Madrid and it is a very interesting place. I would try to stay overnight though. I can recommend two choices the Posada San Jose, and old, charming inn, on the cliff, which is inxepensive and a nearby Hotel Eleonor de Aquitania. Both have tremendous views. The Parador is on the other side and is much more expensive. For dinner I highly recommend a simple place called Meson Los Tintes, their set sample menu is outstanding and very reasonable. Reservations a must. Since you are probably British, you surely will appreciate in Cuenca the ever present link between the Kingdom of Castille and the Plantagenets. Indeed Eleonor of England was Queen of Castille and Toledo as wife of Alfonso VIII of Castille. The Hotel though as they pointed out when I asked them made a mistake. They had wished to name it after her, but instead used the name of the famous Eleonor of Aquitania, her mother. Eleonor of England loved her husband dearly and it is said thet out of grief she died only 28 days after her husband and was buried in Las Huelgas, another, may I say, not to be missed place to visit.
You might also stay in Los Tintes, it is a little far from the Cathedral and the cliff and also the casas colgantes but easy to reach by bus, a 10 minute ride or taxi. I do not know how are the rooms but the food is great.

Enjoy Castille, I am very fond of Catille and Leon as you can probably guess. ;-) Â
