The Czech & Slovak Republics with Krakow at the end

Well fellow travelers, I cannot convince my wife that Jordan and Israel would be an amazing 4 - 6 week trip this May & June. We are now looking at exploring the Czech and Slovak Republics and then dropping in to Krakow to end the journey. FYI, we are a young 60 year old couple, we carry back packs, ride the local trains and buses, stay in pensions and private homes and show up in a county with no accommodation`s booked (except the first night) and a tentative itinerary....we make it up as we go based on input from other travelers, tourist offices and taxi drivers (they are an amazing source of information. (When we were in Pamukkale in Turkey we were waiting for the bus to take us to Selcuk and we met a young newly married couple from Singapore. Thay also were carrying backpacks and we spent a couple of days with them and enjoyed them immensely. They told us after we got to know each other better that they thought it was cute that "older folks" would backpack around Europe.)
I am looking for any input from others that have traveled far and wide in these 2 republics or Krakow. We did meet 2 university students from Krakow last June in Croatia and we have there cell phone numbers. I will look them up if we get there. We enjoy architecture, outdoors activities (we live next to the Rocky Mountains, what do you expect?), just wandering through towns and cities, talking to people, shopping, general sightseeing (I hate guided tours). So fellow world travelers, any and all info would be much
appreciated. By the way skiing is still fabulous at Lake Louise, Sunshine Village an Nakiska .. hope you include Calgary in some of your travel plans.
