Renowned as the birth place of the famous Maratha poet and saint Tukaram, Dehu is located on the banks of the Indravati River, Pune. Tukaram is noted for his work ‘AbhangGatha’, that finds a place of distinction in the greatest literary work connected with the Marathas. Dehu Temple was constructed by the youngest son of Tukaram and exists as one of the main attractions of the town of Dehu. Assumed to be founded way back in the 18th century, Dehu temple is presided by its main deity, Lord Pandurang. This was the very place where Saint Tukaram attained his Moksha (salvation). The other places worth visiting in this region are a famous rock where Tukaram spent 13 days standing (without eating or drinking anything) and a beautiful garden built in fond memory of his wife.
In the vicinity of Dehu Temple is another important temple dedicated to Lord Ayyappa. This was established by Ayyappa Seva Sangam—a popular trust in the area. This temple is best visited in the period ranging from December 16 to January 15, when millions of devotees visit its complex for the famous Mandala Festival.
