Dynamic Conversion rent a car in Italy

I was reading Jerry`s remarks regarding Dynamic Conversion when he rent a car in Italy.
As if the Euro going up was not enough, it is true that recently on a couple of times we had to face the abuse called Dynamic Conversion.
I have encountered it once in the Corte Ingles in Seville and once in our hotel in Burgos.
First time I had the store redo the whole thing and paid in euros the second time they did not know how to do it, so I had it cancelled walked to a nearby ITM machine and paid cash.
I was lucky both times because I had time to fight back but I understand Jerry`s position when you are pressed by a taxi waiting to go to the airport or the like there is little to do...
Lately I ask hotels ahead of time if the bill is going to be in euros or if their system would come up with Dynamic Conversion. I then act accordingly.
Who else has been faced with this Dynamic Conversion? Is there anything you do to revert the situation and pay in Euros? I think that - having time- one can be very firm, the rate has been quoted in euros? then this is what we are expecting to pay : euros.
I find amazing that the Europeans are happily putting more hurdles on our road it seems to me that the high Euro should be enough. I wonder what happens in the US when they pay with a credit card, to they get the bill in euros?
