Eurostar (was: Travel from London to Paris)

Back in spring of `04, my husband and I and our daughter`s family spent a week in London, followed by a week in Paris. We reserved hotel rooms in each city and the rest was spontaneous sightseeing. Each of us picked two attractions we wanted to see in each city (we had two teenagers with us) and my pick was to go from London to Paris via ferry from Dover to Calais. I had to see those white cliffs! We had no problem getting to the boat by train and procuring unreserved tickets. Our one glitch, and judging by the crowd, that of many others, was there not being a later- than-early-afternoon train from Calais to Paris. Thus, we had to spend overnight in Calais. I guess they get a lot of hotel rooms filled this way. We called our Paris hotel to tell them to keep our rooms and we knew we would be charged for the night we weren`t there.
The incident actually turned out to be serendipity for us. We not only got to see Calais and enjoy a delightful meal there, we got to experience the Eurostar the next morning from Calais to Paris nonstop. My son-in-law had wanted to ride the "fast" train, so he got an extra wish as well. To top it off, without our asking, our Paris hotel, the Hotel de Suede in St. Germain des Pres, did not charge for our missed day.
