The Fateh Sagar Lake is located in Udaipur, a city in the Indian state of Rajasthan. This is believed to be the pride of the city of Udaipur. The lake is an artificial one and said to be constructed initially by the Maharaja, Jai Sing in 1687. Almost 200 years ago the lake was ruined, as the lake was washed away and later on Maharana Fateh Sagar, who was the ruler of the state of Mewar, again got it reconstructed in 1888. There are four lakes in Udaipur, the other three being, the Dhebar Lake, Lake Pichola and Udai Sagar Lake. The lake is 2.4 kms long and 1.6 kms wide and is 11.5 meters deep.
Not many people are aware that within the Fateh Sagar Lake, there are three islands, which have a garden, restaurant and a public park too. The first island is known as the Nehru park which is spread in an area of 4kms, there is garden and a restaurant along with a zoo, the second island is spread in a area of 0.6 km and has a public park with a very attractive water-jet fountain and the third island is the place where the Udaipur Solar Observatory is located. One can access the Nehru Park by inboard motor boats from the bottom of Moti Magri.
One can visit the Hariyali Amavasya Mela, which is a local festival celebrated in the months of July and August. One can see all the bright colors of the state of Rajasthan. This festival lasts for two days and devoted to the celebration of womanhood. The unique part of this festival is that only women are allowed to participate in this festival.
