Florence, Italy Was: Re: Jordan & Israel; Italy

Oh I just loved Florence - did not want to leave!!!
I found a cute hotel just around the corner from The Duomo. It was reasonable and the room we had was great. I can`t see where I can attach a picture of the room so I will send you one directly. Here is the link to Hotel Centrale.
Don`t be scared when you arrive in what appears to be an alley, in front of two doors that look like garage dumpsters live behind them. Once inside it is beautiful. The hotel has been build in an old stone building. There is a `small` elevator so you do not have to carry your luggage up to the third floor (I think it is the third floor). Breakfast is pretty basic but will get your day going. Don`t be afraid to ask them to make you a cappuccino in the morning as I found the coffee to be too weak for my taste. The great thing about this hotel is you can walk to anywhere in the city including the train station.
Down the road, away from Via Cerretani, in the square you will find all sorts of street vendors, a great little coffee/snack place (a yellow stucco building with a little iron fence out front) and Antica Sosta Degle Aldobrandini (green sign) which is a cute little wine bar. We went there after dinner and got to know the people there quite well.
We also found a great restaurant, Trattoria Enoteca Baldovino; you may need to make a reservation (phone # 055 241773). It is on Via San Giuseppe. It is owned by a Scotish couple who moved to Florence to open a restaurant. They have done a great job and I had the best pizza here. It is a large restaurant and can be noisy so be prepared but it is well worth the visit.
As far as the sites, there is so much to see here. The Duomo is a must see, we enjoyed The Pitti Palace and we walked the entire city to check out all the beautiful architecture. We were there, not on purpose, on a bank holiday weekend so many of the major attractions had multi-hour line ups so we had to change plans on the fly.
Have wonderful trip; I am green with envy!!
