Gandhi Maidan is a vast place and a common tourist attraction inPatna. It is located at the south of the river. The place consists of a large park with a couple of other locations to see. There is Golghar which is a wonderfully designed dome located just a walk away from the maidan. There are no ticket charges to make the entry here and the place remains open 24 hours a day. This massive beehive of granary was in fact built by British Army in the year of 1786 in order to prevent the side effects of a further famine that had occurred in 1770.
The staircases have been designed with dual spiraling so that the people could climb up and go down using different paths. This provides different view of the river Ganges and the city while going up and down. There is also a wonderful Gandhi Museum which is again a few footsteps away. The museum remains open on all days except Saturdays and provides the detailed history of Mahatma Gandhi through various pictures and texts.
