The Gir forest national park is a wildlife sanctuary also and is located in the India state of Gujarat. This sanctuary was set up in the year 1975 and is a fully protected park and is spread over an area of 43kms and is located only at distance of 65 kms from Somnath.
The wildlife sanctuary is home to many Asiatic lions and the park is known to be quite a big protector of this specie. Other animals which can be seen are the Asiatic wild ass, Gir foxes, Brown fish owl, Hyenas, Pygmy woodpecker, and the black buck can be seen here too. There is a special eco system in the Gir forest and national park, due to which the flora and fauna is very well protected. The forest and national park is visited by many tourists all year round.
