Gopalganj, the administrative districts of Bihar has many worthy places for travelers to visit.
The magnificent fort erected by King of Hathwa, though in decadent state today but is a place of historical value. Near the fort are fourteen small mounds marking the spot where 14 ladies sacrificed their life owing to Sati Pratha. Nearby palace is an ancient Durga temple. In the premises of the temple a peculiar tree has grown up in cross shape. It has been a matter of research even today as its botanical family has not yet been identified.
Shri Pitambara Peeth (temple) is another famous Shakti Peetha near Gopalganj. The temple is famous amongst devotees to silent their enemies. The solitude of the district also attracted Shah Arzan, a Mohammaedan saint, whose tomb lying here attracts large number of Muslims to pay tribute.
Another ancient site in Gopalganj is Dighwa-Dabauli where you can view two astonishing pyramidal-shaped mounds. These mounds are said to be of the Cheros, One must visit the place beautified by Jharni River flowing here.
