The term Jai Pol refers to the “gate of victory”. This is considered to be one of the important monuments of historical importance to the city of Jodhpur. This is actually a structure in the glorious Fort of Mehrangarh in Jodhpur. This is considered to be one of the most famous out of the seven gates in the daunting fort. The structure of Jai Pol is located in a hill which is at a distance of approximately 5 km from the main city of Jodhpur. The structure is believed to have been originally constructed in the 1806, by Maharaja Man Singh, who at that point in time was the ruler of the kingdom of Marwar. The gate is a symbol of victory of Marwar over the neighbouring opponent kingdoms of Jaipur and Bikaner after many fierce battles fought between these places. Upon visiting the place one can still see the scars in the wall which are near the gate, these were made out of cannon balls from the old battle and are still visible. There is no entry fee for visiting the structure. The place can be visited from 9:00 am to 5:00pm, on all days.
