Known as Siddhapuri in the earlier days; the popularity of Jajmau- is a suburb of Kanpur, dates back to the ancient times –and for reasons more than one. Providing many proofs of past historical events, this interesting mound has brought to light a significant number of ancient relics, some going back to 1600 AD. This historic mound is believed to have been the fort of the Hindu King Yayati (many years ago) and now attracts tourists with its high levels of historic significance. Here, you will come across two important temples –those dedicated to Siddha Devi and Siddhnath respectively.
The other places worth visiting in the region are the mausoleum of Makhdam Shah Ala-ul-Haq, a Sufi saint. Constructed under the orders of Firoz Shah Tughlaq, way back in the year 1358, this historic monument ranks high on the list of tourists and tour operators alike. Another important structure worth visiting is a majestic mosque erected by Kulich Khan, in 1679.
