Jama Masjid is a beautifully constructed mosque in the city of Agra. This is also popularly Dargah Mosque. The architectural design is beautiful and shows the colors of Mughal era. It was completed in the year of 1571 in the memory of Akbar’s victory in the Gujarat region.
The design is beautiful and the entrance is through Buland Darwaza, which is a wonderful gateway in itself. There is a message written from the Quranic inscription – The world is a bridge, pass over it but build no house upon it. He who hopes for an hour may hope for eternity, which seems appropriate considering the fate of the city. Therefore it gives you the religious feel of Islam there.
There is also a tomb of Shaikh Salim Chishti inside the courtyard. The tomb was completed in 1581, and has been preserved really well. There are also brightly colored flower murals and the canopy is decorated really well. In this tomb once upon a time Akbar came to plead for a son. And he was blessed with one. Even today childless women visit this tomb and pray for a child. The tomb contains the stone slabs that have the markings of the graves of royal family members. The various carvings on the walls are very appealing and attract every one.
