Kampthi is a city as well as a municipal council the district of Nagpur district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. The city is located right below where the point where the River Kanhan comes in union with the Rivers Kolar and Pench. Kamthi was originally founded by the Britishers in the year 1821 when the British established a military cantonment on the banks of the River Kanhan. Kamthi was earlier named as Camp-T, due to its geographical shape. This city very soon became an important center for trade, however later on the trade gradually diminished with the onset of the railway in the late 19th century to Nagpur.
