The Kareri Lake is also known as the Kumarwah Lake. The Lake is located at a high altitude, approximately 2934 metres above sea level. This is a fresh water Lake located towards the south of the Dhauladhar range which is located at a distance of approximately 9 km North West of Dharamshala in the district of Kangra, in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. The main source of the Lake and the stream is the Dhaluadhar Range from which snow keeps on melting. The lake is quite shallow and the visibility of water is quite high and one can see the Lake bed in most of the places.
The Kareri Lake is known very well for trekking related activities. The Lake mostly is frozen right from early December to March-April. One can see a temple dedicated to the Hindu god Lord Shiva and Shakti which is located on a hilltop which overlooks Kareri Lake.
