The Karni Mata temple is located on the top of the Machla Hill and can be visited by climbing the winding staircase of 1050 stone steps or a rope way. As the name suggest the Karni Mata Temple has been dedicated to the female saint known as Karni Mata, who was considered to be a reincarnation of Goddess Durga, the Hindu goddess.
The temple is not visited by many tourists and generally the local folks visit the temple. People like to visit this temple as their kids enjoy travelling in a trolley in a ropeway. You could take the rope way which is available from the up from the city palace, and you will reach the cafeteria. The temple is located at a distance of 100-150 meters away from this spot. People believe that if you are very fortunate, you might just spot a white mouse rushing by in this temple. One can see the entire city of Udaipur and especially the Lake Pichola looks simply beautiful from this temple. There is no entry fee for visiting the Karni Mata temple.
