Be careful as you step out you will see many rats which are surrounding a trough, and drinking milk out of it. This might look quite unpleasant however you need to keep it in mind that rats are revered residents of the temple and these are taken care of by the temple staff. One can even see many locals Very comfortably sitting with rats in their laps and feeding them bananas and other temple food stuff.
As you enter the main shrine one can see the idol and image of Goddess kali. This is where one understands the importance of rats as you see the image of Goddess holding a Trishul, and she is surrounded by rats. People believe if you see a white rat that is sign that Mata is blessing you.
