The Kaylana Lake was originally built by Sardar Pratap Singh. This lake is considered to be the main provider of the drinking water of the city of Jodhpur. The Kaylana Lake is located at a distance of approximately 8 kilometres to the west of Jodhpur, on the Jaisalmer road. The Lake is believed to have been constructed on the ruins of the gardens and palaces of two Jodhpur kings. One can even see an isolated Siddhartha Shiv temple which appears to be sandwiched between the Takhat Sagar hills which are located close by. The lake is spread over an area of 84 square kilometer area, and is enclosed with Babul trees from all sides. The lake looks quite heavenly.
If you are fond of bird watching then you will certainly enjoy being here as one can see many different types of migratory birds like the Siberian Crane, which come to this lake, especially during the winter season, which is also the peak tourist season in the city of Jodhpur. The best time to visit the Kaylana Lake is when the sun sets. The sky looks beautiful and resembles the work of an artist with different shades of pink, violet, red and yellow.
