The Keesaragutta is a beautiful temple which is located on a hill, primarily dedicated to the Hindu God, Lord Shiva and his consorts, Shivadurga and Bhavani. The temple has a beautiful view. The temple is built at a distance of 40 km away from Hyderabad and has been built on a small hillock.
There is small story on how the temple got its name Keesaragutta. When Rama lord killed Ravana and for washing away his sins Lord Rama chose this beautiful and established a Shivalinga. Lord Rama asked Hanuman to bring him a Shivalinga. At the same time Lord Shiva appeared and presented Rama with a Shivalinga. Therefore the Shivalinga in the temple is also known as Swayambu linga and Ramalingeshwara.
In the meanwhile because Hanuman could not locate a perfect Shivalingam, he got with him 101 Shivalingas for Rama to choose from. When Hanuman saw the Shivlinga installed already he got upset and threw all the ones he carried. You can still see all the scattered Shivalingas around the temple. For mellowing down Hanuman, Lord Rama promised him that he would be the first one to be worshipped here, and the hill on which the temple would stand, will bear his name - Kesarigiri.
