Khoksar is known as the first village and also the gateway to Lahaul and is nestled on the right bank of the river Chandra, at a distance of 5 kms from 'Gramphoo'. This is located at an altitude of 3,140 meters above sea level.
During winter season the village of Khoskar is the coldest inhabited place in Lahaul. The river freezes during the winter months and the river is covered with snow and makes way for human beings and provides as a passage for mule traffic. Khoksar since times immemorial has been the old trade route from Indian plains to the western Asia.
