Kodaikanal is a small hill station situated on the crest of the Palani knolls. It is located at a distance of around 120 kms from Madurai and is a nice place to visit. The place is surrounded by wooden slopes, waterfalls and the view around the hills is breathtaking. It is the only hill station in India which was set up by the Americans in the year of 1901. There is a renowned Kodaikanal International School whose cosmopolitan influence could be felt throughout the town. There is Kurinji shrub that is only found here.
The light purple flowers blossom every 12 years and the next are due in 2018. There are a large number of gum trees here. The place provides a wonderful opportunity to explore the forests and hills through hiking and enjoy the beauty of the place. The temperature remains perfect in the place all throughout the year and therefore can be visited in any month. The rains can occur at any time here.
