The Phyang monastery is actually belongs to the Dringungpa sect of Buddhism. This was built in the year 1515 and belongs to the Dringungpa school of Buddhism, one of the only two in Leh. Upon visiting this monastery you will notice that within the walls of the Phyang monastery one can see the ancient history of Leh and how the glorious past of Leh was lost. The Phyang monastery is considered to be one of the most important monasteries of Leh, both in terms of the cultural as well as from a historical point of view.
