Lidder/ Liddar River stretches across 73 kms in the mind blowing state of Jammu and Kashmir. The waters of this beautiful rives owe their existence to the Kolhoi Glacier linked with the Jehlum River. Lidder merges with the mighty Jhelum in Gurnar Khanabal village, which is located at an elevation of 1615 meters. The lush Lidder Valley lies nestled in close proximity to Sonamarg and is also visited for its alpine meadows known as Lidderwat—a mesmerizing location from which River Lidder has derived its name.
Flowing through lush mountains and dense forests of fir, this crystal bluish river boasts of a quaint tourist village that sits prettily on its banks. Referred to as Aru, this oft visited destination boasts of some interesting twists and turns in River Lidder. From here, the river flows on to join up with the popular Jehlum River at the village of Gurnar Khanabal in Anantnag. En route, it meets up with the East Lidder—a major tributary emanating from Sheshnag Lake.
