Loha Pol is the very impressive and the massive gateway that once led to everything royal and glorious. This is considered to be one of the seven gateways of Mehrangarh fort, located in the city of Jodhpur, in the Indian state of Rajasthan. This is located at a distance of 5kms from the Jodhpur city. This was the actual gate which lead to the various palaces and the residences of kings. The Loha Pol was considered to be one the most heavily guarded gate. It was through the Loha Pol gate that the bereaved queens jumped into flames and committed ‘sati’ right after the death of their husbands, to avoid getting into the hands of the invaders. One can still see the ‘hand prints’ of those queens in Loha Pol. The monument is of historical importance is often visited by History Buffs who like to gain knowledge. There is an entry fee for visiting the monument. Indians are charged Rs 20 per person, and foreign nationals have to pay Rs 250 for visiting the monument. The fort can be visited on all days of the week except Saturday, from 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM. One can see the entire place within 30 minutes.
