The Madan Mahal fort is located in the city of Jabalpur towards the south western part of the city. This ancient fort was originally built by the Gond ruler Raja Madan Shah in the year 1116. The fort is located on a rocky hill and is well known for its beautiful architecture and attractive surroundings. The fort was used as a watch tower for the defenders and attackers which was used during the Gondwana rule. The Madan Mahal fort was a pleasure palace for the tenth Gond King, Madan Singh.
Currently the fort is maintained and preserved by the Archaeological Survey of India. Upon visiting the fort you will see many shrines which even include many medieval structures like the Bajnamath and Sangram Sagar which were all built by the famous Gond King, Sangram Shah, in the years from 1480-1540. Within the premises of the fort one can see a pond, which looks very peaceful and serene. One can see the whole town from the fort from here and enjoy the scenic view.
