Karauli is known for the Madan Mohan Temple dedicated to lord Krishna. It is believed that Raja Gopal Singh had a dream to fetch the idol of Lord Krishna from Amer and establish it in Karauli. So the temple was constructed having an Ashtadhatu idol of Krishna (3 ft high) and Radha(2 ft high) . The idols are living example of the medieval architecture and took 2-3 years to complete. The Garbhagriha has a circumambulatory path and beautiful pictures of Radha Krisha are engraved through-out. The temple is owned and maintained by the Gaudiya Sampradaya who performs all the rituals and prayers. Prasad is distributed after Arti. The various charitable activities are performed by the Gaudiya Samaj and a Bhandara offers free foods to the visitors. The temple promotes the reading and recitation of religious books and organises various religious discourse to emphasise the same. Ramleelas and Rasaleelas are also organized. Festivals like. Janmasthmi, Radha Asthmi, Gopasthmi, Hindola etc are celebrated with special enthusiasm and vigour. On every new moon day and Maha Shivratri a fair is held which attract a lot of visitors. The temple opens at 5:00 am and closes at 10:00 p.m. maintaining a strict punctuality.
