Madurai is a well known place, mainly for its Sri Meenakshi Temple complex. It is a beautiful city which remains packed with the pilgrims, common people, rickshaw drivers, and many more. The roads will always be full of vehicles and pedestrians. Madurai is one of the oldest cities in South India and has been a learning centre for many centuries. There is a nice textile centre, which was built when Mahatma Gandhi decided to wear nothing that came from abroad and only khadi which was made from cotton, in the year of 1921. There are a number of clothes and tailors shops in the city. Sri Meenakshi Temple is a beautifully designed temple which is a perfect example of Dravidian architecture with gopurams covered from top to bottom in a wonderful fashion. These contain the colorful images of various gods and mythical figures. The temple attracts large number of visitors everyday from all over the world. Around 10,000 visitors come here every day. The temple observes a number of activities and ceremonies throughout the day and is wonderful to watch. The place is well connected through roads and is easily approachable.
