This is also referred to as Pong Dam Lake or popularly as the Pong reservoir and was built in the year 1975 at which point of time it was the highest earth-fill dam built in the country. It was built on the Beas River in theKangra district lying in the Siwalik Hills located in Himachal Pradesh. This dam was named after Maharana Pratap and it is one of the most well-known wildlife sanctuaries in India and it has been declared by the Ramsar convention as one of 25 international wetland sites. It is one of the imost prominent fishing reservoirs in the state.
For travelling purposes the nearest railway stations are located at Pathankot about 32 kms. away and at Mukerian which is about 30 kms. away. There are two places Jawali and Nagrota Surian which are located on the edge of the reservoir and these lie on the railway line that links Joginder Nagar to Pathankot.
