The Mehrangarh fort museum is located at a distance of 5 kilometres from the main city of Jodhpur. The Mehrangarh Museum is located within the premises of the Mehrangarh Fort. Upon visiting this beautiful museum you will be able to see the paintings, costumes, antique furnishings and the weapons which originally belonged to formers rulers and warriors of the land of Marwar. There is a stunning collection of palanquins and howdahs. The most important one was the Mahadol Palanquin, which was actually won in a battle in the year 1730, from the Governor of Gujarat. One can see the four main period rooms which depict the lavish lifestyle of the Royal family.
There are many palaces which are located within the premises of the Mehrangarh fort. The main palaces are those of Sheesh Mahal, Jhanki Mahal, Zenana Deodi, Moti Mahal, Phool Mahal and the Takht Vilas. It is quite fascinating to see the ceiling which was decorated with gold leaves and mirrors. One can see how seashells were used by crushing and blending these with plaster for giving a polished look to the ceiling.
