The Mudumalai National Park is a 321 sq km national park located at the foothills of the Nilgiris. The place is surrounded by the dense forest and there are quite a number of places to see the wildlife from close. This is a part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve which has a variety of land from grasslands to semi evergreen forests where you can find a number of wild animals.
These animals include spotted deer, bison, tigers, panthers, wild boars and sloth bears. You can also find the otters and the crocodiles near the Moyar River. The park has around 600 wild elephants. If you are visiting the place the best time to visit is from December to June. In the rainy seasons it must be avoided as there are heavy showers and you may not enjoy the visit. A minibus tour will take you around the park at just Rs 20.The entry fee is Rs. 15/- and it remain open all the days of week at 7:00 AM - 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM.
