Constructed under the command of Sir Arthur Cotton, Mukkombu also referred to as the Upper Anicut, is at the point where the Kaveri River branches out to form the Kollidam River. Located just 18 kilometers from Tiruchirappalli, the dam was inspired by the Kallanai Dam. The area is pristine and the landscape beautiful to look at – lush green fields interspersed with woodlands and sprinklings of wild flowers.
A very popular place for picnics, the place is usually crowded during the weekends and holidays. However, week days are less crowded and for those who are looking for some peace and quiet, Mukkombu can be the perfect place. Lush green landscape all around and with a well maintained and laid out garden, it is easy to see why this place is such a favourite with the locals and tourists alike. A walk through acres of greenery will remind you of childhood holidays when urbanization was still at its nascent stage. Close to the dam and an amusement park which is located on NH 67 makes it must visit spot for children. A wonderful place to spend a day enjoying the locale in the lap of nature.
