The highest peak in Karnataka, Mullayanagiri is part of the Baba Budan Giri range. Located in Chikmangalur, Mullayanagiri is probably one of the best places in South India for the adventurous and those who wish to explore and be one with nature.
Standing at six thousand three hundred and thirty two feet, Mullayanagiri is a popular place for those looking for a trek in the lap of nature. Lush green with vegetation and dotted with a huge number of freshwater lakes, Mullayanagiri offers a very serene and peaceful atmosphere to those who venture here. There is a motor able and smooth road for those not interested in hiking, but the best way to experience this mountain is to climb up on foot. A hike up the mountain will see you passing through different landscapes including being enveloped in the cool mist that suddenly comes up. Although the weather can be fickle, the trek is very refreshing though tiring.
There is an ancient temple, the Mullapaswamy Temple on the top of the mountain. Recently renovated, the temple is a good place to camp for the night if you so desire. A clear night will see you wanting to reach out and touch the stars that seem so close to where you are. The best time to hike here is during the warmer months as the trek is easier and the view all along very beautiful. Monsoons can be a tough time to try this trek, although the beauty of this range during the rainy season is spectacular.
Reaching the top is an exhilarating experience as you look down and marvel at the surrounding landscape. Though not the Everest, reaching the top will make you feel like Tenzing did.
