Musamman Burj—another historical proof of Shah Jahan's eternal love for his beloved wife, is etched in pure white marble and attracts visitors from all across the globe. The grandeur and architectural splendor of this beautiful monument is past compare and adds to the overall historic worth of Agra—the city of Taj Mahal. Musamman Burj is an integral part of this very tradition of love for Mumtaz Mahal.
This majestic monument is located within the Agra Fort and is typically a tower constructed for the women of the royal family. This structure was especially made to allow the ladies to look outwards, without being seen by people of the male gender. Erected between the period 1631 and 1640, the spectacular Musamman Burj offers magnificent views of the Taj Mahal.
Visitors are mesmerized by the architectural design of this tower, which is complete with pietraduras and domes made of marble. They are inlaid with intricate designs studded with precious and semi-precious stones –which make them worth a view. This is the very place where Shah Jahan spent the last few days of his life with daughter Jahanara Begum. Even as he breathed his last (in the captivity of Aurangzeb—his son), he kept on gazing at the tomb of his beloved from the heights of this stunning tower. The Taj Mahal is clearly visible from Musamman Burj –a must see on your itinerary.
