Nameri was declared a national park by the Indian government in the year 1978. This park is located in the eastern foothills of the Himalayas in the Sonitpur district of Assam. As far as the vegetation is concerned the forest is mostly deciduous in nature with bamboos and canes which is growing along with river. There are over 600 species of plants like the Michelia Champaca, Terminalia, Bhelou, Hatipolia Akhakan, and orchids like Cymbidium and Dendrobium. Here you will get to see many animals like the Himalayan Sloth Bear, Indian Giant Squirrel, Great Pied Hornbill, Leopard, Dhole, Sambhar, Gaur, Wild Bear, Plovers, Blue bearded bee eaters, and many more to name a few.
If you are interested in Bird watching then you must visit the Nameri National park. Upon visiting this amazing park you will find almost 374 species of birds which even include the spotted eagle and the rumped vulture.
You could also go for a trek in this national park, which is conducted by the armed forest department.
The park is open for tourists from November to April. There are different charges for Indians and for foreigners if you would like to click pictures and make videos. The entry fee will be Rs.20 per person for Indians, Rs. 250 per person for foreign nationals, Rs. 50 per camera for Indians, Rs. 500 per camera for foreign nationals, Rs. 350 per boat for Indians + extra charges for boatmen Rs. 550 per person for foreign nationals + extra charges for boatmen. This place can be visited at all days of weeks at 5:00AM to 7:00PM.
